Responsible off-roaders repairing Damage from Irresponsible mudders.

Dear Piston’s Wild Club Members & Applicants:
Well it’s not as flashy as we were hoping for – but it is positive PR and it was in today’s Columbian Newspaper in the Neighborhood section. Getting positive PR from a “green” publication is a step in the right direction -- beggars can’t be choosers. I have been assured by the original reporter, Erik Robinson that there will be a much larger article in February 2009 when we go back to replant the area.

Five minutes of fame for Rick Dominiak, Darel Crowder & Bill Manbeck in the photo below. The reporter managed to accurately capture a snapshot of my interview at least. When I mentioned the Pacific Northwest 4-Wheel Drive Association in my interview – the reporter was not impressed, actually annoyed – and obviously annoyed enough to leave the PNW name completely out of the article. We have a lot of work to do to change the public perception of the PNW in our area. Unfortunately, he also chose to leave out the fact that Earl Freimuth from the Mud Puppies assisted with the work.

Great Job Guys! I am so proud of everything we have accomplished in the Yacolt Burn. Take a moment and pat yourself on the back – none of this would have been possible without each and every one of you taking ownership of this project. And by the way – you guys “ROCKED” the Longview show on Saturday. It was fun for me to listen to each of you as your shared your enthusiasm about the Yacolt Burn with the people who stopped by to visit our booth. The crowd really loved it and as much as they hated to admit it – our Region Board thought we did a nice job as well. In addition, we managed to get 50 more surveys completed for DNR – each and every one had a check in the box for “4x4” as their primary activity in the forest – that is . . .PHENOMENAL!

Remember - “Just Keep Swimming” - maybe this time next year we’ll all be wheelin’ in the Yacolt Burn…

Have a great weekend!

Crystal

Here’s the article with picture that was in The July 30th paper for your enjoyment:

Dole Valley: When members of a local four-wheel-drive organization, Piston’s Wild Motorsports, heard that off-roaders had torn up a stream on state forest land off Dole Valley Road, they decided to pitch in and help repair the damage. A group of volunteers spent hours on July 13 using hand tools to re-contour a seasonal tributary of Rock Creek under the guidance of state Department of Natural Resources biologist Dan Friesz. The group is planning to return next February to plant willows, cottonwoods and dogwoods along the stream. Crystal Crowder, a Ridgefield resident who serves as president of Piston’s Wild, had no sympathy for the scofflaws who tore up the stream. “These are not ‘four-wheel-drive enthusiasts.’ These are vandals,” she said. “They just happen to be using the four-wheel-drive as their means of destruction.
