Monday Night Meet-Ups

I looked up 'forum' and discovered it meant...a place of assembly for the people.

Part of the reason for starting this new forum was to provide a fun place to hang out with friends when we couldn't do it in person on the trail, at the track, or around the campfire.

Look folks, let me be straight up with you. We can't all get together, but we share a common interest and it is the reason we are all here.
Exactly what is it that we like? Is it the machine or is it the outdoors?
Is it the smell of fresh air or the sound of intake manifolds dispensing combustible fluids, and pistons slapping against heads?

This forum is a newfangled modern tool that we can use to get to know each other and plan for fun times together. I would like to invite you all to come and sit around the campfire (aka get on this forum) on Monday nights. Maybe from 7 to 9 pm?

Local authorities are investigating a Lion attack in the Dole Valley area of the Yacolt Burn in SW Washington A local man, Bill Hutchens, was attacked by a small lion while working with a 4x4 volunteer group that was restoring a wetlands area that was previously damaged by vandals in the Yacolt Burn.

Witnesses from the volunteer group, Pistons Wild Motorsports, say that it was very strange to see a lion in this area, as they are not indigenous to the Pacific Northwest. Mr. Hutchens is grateful to be alive and gives thanks to the bystanders who distracted the Lion with a stick while he escaped to safety.

Well - here's the story...

We were helping one of our club members build up his little Bronco II for a reliable wheelin' rig - nothing outrageous, just something to run trails with and take the family.

He wanted to upgrade the running gear on his Bronco II, so off to Craigslist we went and found this little parts gem (prior tuff truck competitor) for next to nothing...

It had the running gear and a good strong motor that we were looking for so we grabbed it up quick and towed it home...

After sizing up the two rigs - we decided it would be better/easier to use the one he already had for parts and go ahead and upgrade the Craigslist find instead.

So we're running through everything to make sure it's 100%. It was a little unwieldly flat towing back from Portland, so we broke down the front suspension to take a look.

The pictures below are what the previous owners had used for the 2" spacers with the coils to get the larger tires to fit under. Not an entirely ridiculous idea except that the spacers are made out of - get this -- PVC pipe rings filled with expanding foam - hence the death wobble that just about took my Explorer over the side of the I-205 bridge...

I just got back from the West side few hours ago and need to spend time with the family. They did not come over with me to the swap meet. It only took 2 hours and 40 minutes to drive over the pass to get home. It was 4 hours to get there Saturday night. Snow on me both ways.

I do take offense to "Ma'am" and few non-disney referrals to women.

I wouldn't mind the teasing except for it's only allowed one way. It's supposedly OK for Jim to tease me, but I'm not allowed to tease anyone -- or at least not anyone without a sense of humor. :luke:

I get criticized ALL THE TIME for my actions in the PNW, but I'm not allowed to hold anyone else accountable for their actions (or more commonly - lack of action).

Ceg, did you go out anywhere this last weekend?I did go for a drive Saturday and Sunday with the blue XJ. Never dropped it in low range. I was out looking at houses to buy. I found a place for sell near the town of Naches on Hwy 12 west of the old lumber mill. Nice house and it has a shop. The price is kind more than I want to pay but maybe. I found another I like near the town of Cowiche. That would keep me close to the Ahtanum and close to Rimrock and Naches wheelin' areas.

I heard from a friend about a place called Jones Beach. Its in Oregon, on the Columbia River between Claskine and Westport. It is a nice sandy beach that people go bank fishing, ride quads and 4wheel. My wife and I went there this last Saturday. The weather was great. We got there at 11am and we were the only people with quads. By the time we unloaded 6 more truck loads of quads arrived. We rode for 10 minutes untill my bike broke. So the rest of the day we shared.

Sounds like a fun place. I know what it is like to break as so as you get there. That happen to me at Moses Lake a few years back with my XJ. I had only brought one quad for my family to share as the other rode in the XJ. We hauled a friends quad for him. It rained so only my oldest son rode the quad with our friend as we sat in the motor home.
