The following appeared in our local paper today (7-17-2010) (Albany Democrat-Hearld)
Klamath Falls, Ore. (AP) The Fremont-Winema National Forest in Southern Oregon is closing half its roads and many smaller trails to motor vehicles.
The hearld and News reports the forest issued its new travel management plan online on Friday. It was four years in the making. Recreation manager Robert Weatherall says most of the roads that are being closed were lightly used, and more than 6,000 miles of road and 170 miles of trail remain open to traffic.
Forest spokeswoman Erica Hupp says they realize a lot of people wanted more roads left open, but they tried to keep the public's desires in mind.
Now it will remain to see what can be gained over the next year when they update the travel maps and what is open for use.
Have not pulled it up yet to take a look, but I hope the clubs and people working on it got at least some of what hey were asking for.
Our Oregon Executive Director Randy Drake and his land use team are putting together our appeal. If anyone has any specific information you would like to have included, please let us know.
