The BLM (Baker Field Office) is applying for another Oregon ATV grant to help with ongoing management of Virtue Flat OHV Area and other OHV riding opportunities on BLM lands in N.E. Oregon. Letters (emails) of support are needed from user groups to include with the grant application to help improve the chances that the grant will be awarded. Thanks to everyone who has done so in the past! This year is even more important because it will fund the program for the next TWO years.
Basically the way it works is this:
In Oregon, your 4x4 is considered a "Class II ATV". When you operate your ATV on public land in Oregon, you need to have an ATV sticker (permit). These cost about ten bucks for two years. The money goes into a special ATV fund. Then, agencies and clubs, etc. can ask for money from this fund through the ATV grant process, to help pay for ATV management, projects, etc. It's a great program that allows the users to directly support their sport.
In past years, this grant has paid for staging area construction, trail maintenance, trail signing and mapping, rockcrawl construction (at the quarry), staffing and patrol, portable toilet rental, bulletin board construction, signing of public land boundaries, etc.
If you enjoy Virtue Flat OHV Area, and/or want to support ATV recreation in northeastern Oregon, please take a moment to send an email of support to:
Emails are needed as soon as possible because the grant deadline is THIS WEEK, so please take a minute right now to send that email.
They can be long or short, it's up to you. This is an outstanding opportunity to directly support 4x4 and other ATV recreation opportunities in N.E. Oregon! Thank you for your time and please pass this on to other interested parties as you see fit. Time is of the essence!
