Reiter Foothills Forest update
Construction has begun on the single-track trails in Reiter Foothills Forest. Photo: DNR
Work is moving along at Reiter Foothills Forest trail.
Parking T-1 and T-2. Construction work at T-1 is completed. All the rock has been placed at T-2.
Construction sequence. We reviewed the construction sequence map for single-track trails showing the expanding system of loops north of the Deer Flats Mainline Road in Area 6. Construction of the "Red" trail on the sequencing map is scheduled to begin construction in early June.
Construction activities. We are stockpiling rock; hired an experienced mini-excavator operator tasked with doing the earthwork of the trail construction; and are arranging for four-months' worth of Washington Conservation Corps (WCC) crew time to begin constructing the trail in June.
Volunteer opportunities. Volunteer work will complement the work to be done by the WCC crews. We will keep you posted on these opportunities.
Section 1, 4x4 trails. While our focus has been on Area 6 trails this winter, we have started to work on Phase 1 trail design in Area 1 as well.
Non-motorized trails. Survey crews should be completing the survey of two future bridge sites. We look forward to getting this information to our engineer so he can begin the design process.
Correction to grant information shared in previous issue
We have decided to separate the continuation of Phase 1 trails into two different grants from the Nonhighway and Off-road Vehicles Activities (NOVA) program:
* Spring/Summer 2012 -- Phase 1 Motorcycle and ATV trail construction beginning July 2013 and ending in June 2015.
* Spring/Summer 2012 -- Phase 1 4x4 trail construction beginning July 2013 and ending in June 2015.
Look for more information about our grant proposals in a future issue. We will let you know how to submit a letter of support for these grant projects.
Reiter Foothills Focus Group Meeting - May 23
This month's meeting will be a progress report of the area. Please bring your calendars so we can schedule volunteer work party days to help with construction of Area 6 trails.
The Reiter Foothills Focus Group meetings are open for all to attend. These are a great way to hear, firsthand, about the progress at Reiter and to provide your input on recreation in the area.
Reiter Foothills Forest Focus Group meetings are from 7 to 9 p.m. every fourth Wednesday of the month in the East Public Meeting Room, Snohomish County Building, 3000 Rockefeller Ave., Everett.
