Naches Ranger District Plans for Upcoming Holiday Weekend
Naches— District officials are taking time to remind Labor Day visitors of current openings and closures on the Naches Ranger District. With multiple fires still active on the district and other project work occurring, it is important for holiday visitors to know where they can and cannot go at this time.
Utilizing ERFO (Emergency Relief of Federally Owned Roads) funds, the Naches Ranger District has completed the road repair on Deep Creek road, known as FSR 1808. The road will be logged out and officially opened on Friday, August 30th. This road accesses Copper City the Deep Creek trailheads. Recreation managers remind visitors that although the road is open, the trailheads still have limited parking capacity. Vehicles longer than 26’ have limited turnaround options. The road may also be brushy and rough in certain areas.
The Conrad Lake and Manastash Ridge Fires are still active with associated area, road, and trail closures. The complete Forest Orders can be found on the Okanogan-Wenatchee Forest website at www.fs.usda.gov/okawen
or at the Naches Ranger District front office. Visitors traveling through the area may see only minimal smoke, but the closures are still crucial for firefighter and public safety. Closed areas include Conrad Meadows, Rimrock Peninsula recreational area and boat launch, Manastash Ridge, Lily Pond, and Funny Rocks.
For more information on the Conrad Lake and Manastash Ridge Fires, call the fire information center at 509-964-2138. You can also receive information online at http://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/3629
for Conrad Lake and http://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/3697
for Manastash Ridge.
Fire danger on the Naches Ranger District is high and campfire restrictions are still in effect. The forest has received some precipitation within the past couple weeks, however, the vegetation is still dry and warmer weather is predicted. Firefighters appreciate public compliance with closures and fire restrictions. Forest user compliance allows firefighters to continue to focus their efforts on wildfire suppression.
The Naches Ranger District office will be closed on Monday, August 30th for Labor Day but forest information is available 24 hours a day in the front foyer. Regular office hours are Monday through Friday, 8am-12pm and 12:30pm-4pm. No permits are sold after 4pm.
