Recovery of Fire Equipment Complete
Cle Elum, Wash. – This will be the last update unless significant activity occurs.
The Mt Hood Type II hand crew was released from the fire this morning, leaving members of the Cle Elum Ranger District fire crew in place to continue rehab of fire lines and mop up hot spots as they flare up along the perimeter of the fire area.
Warm, dry weather remains in the forecast through the weekend; torching and smoke within the interior of the fire is expected. Several hundred acres of unburned fuel remain within fire lines and will continue to flare up at times until snow falls on the fire area. Snags, hot spots, stump holes and the possibility of debris flows during or immediately following rainfall will continue to pose a threat to firefighter and public safety in the weeks and months to come.
Area trail and road closures in the vicinity of the fire are being relaxed at midnight tonight. Forest Service Road 3100, 3111 and 3120 will open to the public on Thursday September 12, 2013. All roads and trails south of FS road 3100, west of and including trail 1350 Manastash Lake and east of trail 4W328 Wells Meadows remain closed in the interest of public safety. The only exception to this is Manastash Campground will be open for use, as will FS road 3104 from its junction with FS road 3100 to the exit of Manastash Camp. FS 3104 is open for the sole purpose of accessing Manastash Campground.
The number one objective of this fire and post fire operations is to keep the public and firefighters safe. Details of the closure boundaries, lists of closed roads and trails, and relevant maps are available on the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forests website. Only firefighters, Forest Service or other agency personnel, and law enforcement are allowed access to closure areas.
Fire danger remains high. Please check the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forests website for current campfire restrictions.
