November 18, 2010
4-Wheel Parts, Tacoma, WA
This regular meeting of the Region 2 of the Pacific Northwest 4-Wheel Drive Association was called to order at 7:25 pm by Region 2 Director Edward Campbell, followed by the flag salute and a moment of silence for the sick and departed.
Roll call was taken verbally and via the sign-in sheet. Our guests tonight were Rick Cornwell from the Quadrapaws, Bryce and Cindy Carpenter who are in the process of joining the Lake Tapps Turtles, and Andre Roberts of ForestWatchVP.org and Washington Virtual Jeep Club.
Secretary’s report – Minutes were e-mailed to the Tri-Power but did not appear. Motion was made by Kathy Greenwood and seconded by Frank Cieplik to accept that the minutes as they will be appearing next month (?) in the Tri-power. Motion passed.
Treasurer’s report- Lora Jungmayer gave a verbal report. A motion was made by Kathy Greenwood and seconded by Derrick Clarck to accept the verbal report. Motion passed.
We Did it/Club Power- Kathy Greenwood had nothing new to report. Please make sure that if you have participated in any events or work parties to please get the paperwork to her. Parades count as events, so if your club does a holiday parade please let Kathy know. Kathy is also looking for new ideas about what can be included as We Did It/Club Power projects.
Naches – Dave Bauman reported that the west side of the trail system is now closed and the trail closure signs have been posted. For the first time we have posted signs on both the east side and the west side of the trail.
Evens Creek- Derrick Clark reported that the trail will be closing December 15th for seasonal closures. There is already snow on the trail. This last Monday evening there was an accident involving a man and his kid. We are sad to announce that the man was killed in the accident and his son was critically hurt and was transported to the hospital. At this time the child is back home. Our thoughts are with the family. The Forest Service has come to us and asked us about setting up a phone tree and volunteers to be a sort of search and rescue for the trail system. Jim Puttman has already started looking for volunteers. On a lighter note, Christmas tree permits are now available.
Elbe Hills- Joe Wittig reported that we did not receive the grant for the new machinery. Nancy Barker will be applying again next year for the grant and would still like us to be willing to donate a trailer if the equipment is funded. Nancy is also looking to us for support in creating a Forest Watch group for next year. Andrew Roberts from ForestWatchVP.org was here to promote a forest watch program for volunteers to take pictures of people who are doing the “wrong thing” on trails. More stickers are needed for people to put on their rigs at the cost of $44.00 for 125 stickers. A motion was made by Jeff Thompson and seconded by John George to purchase 125 stickers. Motion Passed. Kathy Greenwood then made a motion seconded by Mike Mayfarth that we not only buy just 125 stickers, but double the purchase for a total of 250 stickers and $88.00. Motion passed. Countyline Offroad has adopted Scott Turner Road in the Elbe Hills area.
Tahuya- John George reported that the trail is still open. The DNR is draining water out of certain water holes to hopefully stop people from trying to go around them. The wood thief that has been active for the last few years has been caught and is now facing his punishment. The yellow signs are almost all down and replaced with the purple ones. This Saturday the 20th there will be a work party to clean the trail up and get ready for the winter.
Land Matters- Jim Puttman reported on road closures in the Evans Creek area. The 70 road is closed at the Pyramid Snow Park along with the 72, 7160, and 73 roads. The 74 road is still closed due to the bridge still being out. At this time the open roads are 7220, 7030, 75, 7222, 7710, and 7720 as well as the road to Evans up to the Mowich Park Gate. Firewood permits are now available through the Forest Service for $20.00 for 2 cords. Because of the recent storms there is lots of downed wood along the 70 road. Beverly sand dunes will be open all winter this year.
OHV Watch- There will be a political Rally at the state capitol on February 25th sponsored by WOHVA. Please mark your calendars. More information about the event will be distributed in January. Region 2 is also looking for a person to volunteer as a new OHV Watch liaison.
Letter writing- Angie Marek asks that if you have written any letters to please let her know who you wrote letters to and when you sent them. You can e-mail this info to Angie at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Membership- Jim Puttman reported that there are currently no new clubs.
Ways and Means- Tiffany Morris had nothing new to report.
PR- No report.
Future 4-Wheelers – no report.
Competition- Brandon Marek reported that Monster Jam is coming up in January on the 14, 15, and 16. We will only be participating in the Tacoma show this year and not Portland or Spokane this year. We should look forward to participating in these other two shows next year. There is a tech requirement this year for blankets over the transmission, driveline hoops, and there must be a tow hook on the front of your rig to participate. More details will follow via e-mail from Rob Stafford.
Region 2 Event/Summer Convention – We, as a region, would still like to host an event and are still are interested in using Stradaline ORV park since Cadillac Ranch will not be open. At this point we need someone or someones to take over as the chairperson(s) before we can commit to an event. Discussion has been tabled to the January meeting.
Shore Patrol – Mike Mayfarth reported that the Tacoma Webfooters would like to take over the planning of this event since the Edgewood Hillwilly’s have stepped down. The Webfooters will be submitting a letter of Intent for the event before the Region decides on the proposal.
