Default Vehicle fees proposed at Little Naches sites

Vehicle fees proposed at Little Naches sites

The Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest is proposing to institute new $5 per-vehicle fees next year at four popular Little Naches sites — Ponderosa Camp and the Lost Meadow, Longmire Meadow and Long Meadow camp areas, which access a lot of motorized-use trails.

The new fee, which won’t apply to towed vehicles, is intended to help cover the cost to operate and maintain the existing amenities and services at the sites, from toilet facilities to garbage collection, as well as planned additions of picnic tables and iron grills. Any fees collected in excess of that needed to maintain those camp areas would be available for maintenance of the trail systems accessed by the campgrounds.

To comment on the proposal for new fees, which Naches District Ranger Randall Shepard calls “vital to ensuring that the sites stay open to public use,” call Jacqueline Beidl at 509-653-1432 or e-mail to jbeidl@fs.fed.us by Sept. 30.

Unless it becomes a state park the money won't stay there.
