AHTANUM--A Yakima man is in the hospital tonight after a run-in with a bear.

A deputy from the Yakima County Sheriff's Office told KNDO a man riding a motorcycle on the north fork of Ahtanum Road went around a bend and saw a bear blocking his path.

He tried to avoid it and lost control.

Deputies say the man's being treated for neck and rib injuries.

They're not expected to be life-threatening.

The bear was gone when police arrived.

If the bike had been louder then the bear would have heard it coming and this whole incident would have been prevented
