Default Copper city WP

Ok Wade here ya go

About 7 years ago my club the Hombres adopted and signed into a shared cost agreement with the FS to rebuild the old mining road to Copper city. This trail is located about 7 miles above Bumping lake. Since then we have been working with the FS to restore this trail. Its been and continues to be a difficult process for several reasons. Because the are is on the historical sites list things have to be preserved and new items have to be as close to historically possible. This creates all kinds of challenges as you can well imaging. This trail is also at a high elevation which means its only snow free from around July to October and of course all of the FS personal is gone on fires during the summer months. We were moving along at a decent pace until 2 years ago when Deep creek flooded and took out a major chunk of the only access road. Several other small tributaries also flooded and turned the road into a new streambed. We are further challenged with the fact that Deep creek is a fish bearing stream and thus the fish and wildlife is making us build a rather substantial bridge where the culver once was. Add to this the recent loss of IAC funds (and our grant) and were delayed once again. On the up side the Naches ranger district is being very diligent in moving forward with this project and we hope to have a bridge (temp) in place next summer so we can get back to work. I was able to get a small work party together last month and we went in with the FS to clean out the culverts and get our materials on site stored properly for another winter. Here are some pics from the October 22 wp. Jim
