Default Monster Jam 2010 (Tacoma, Portland, & Spokane)

Howdy All, It's time to start compiling the lists of drivers for the 5 Monster Jam shows at the Tacoma Dome. This year we also get to be a part of the Portland and Spokane shows, so I need to know who can be a part of those shows as well.
We are still working on details for additional rig requirements and safety rules, One item I do know for sure is FRONT AND REAR DRIVE-LINE HOOPS WILL BE REQUIRED ON ALL VEHICLES.
As like last year, I will be focusing on Friday evenings show first. Last year it worked out that everyone that could be at the Dome by 3:30-4:00 on Friday was able to be a part of the Friday show.
Our goal again this year for the Tacoma show is to be able to donate $5000 to a charitable organization at the Saturday evening's show, If you know of a group you would like to nominate for this, please pass it along.
At this time, we most likely will not need many extra volunteers to staff our part of the show. It is my understanding that like last years shows, Grace May & Dave Taylor will be in charge of staging, both pre-show and during our portion of the shows, and Luke May will be back by special request as our start flagger and also will be in charge of the floor crew for our portion of each show. If you are interested in volunteering to assist either Grace or Luke, please contact them.
We will be doing shirts again, on a pre-order basis. Choices include short or long sleeve T's, sweat shirts (crew neck or 1/4 zip), and hoodies. Color will probably be Royal Blue. I'll need to know your size and style you want.

After looking at the safety rules that are being used this year I'm going to have to back out Cant really afford to change a bunch of things for a 20 second pass. Sorry

Sorry to hear that Marty. I know they have a lot of rules they're imposing on us this year. Would have been nice to have some advance notice but we'll try and make the best of it.

Barrel Racing Rules and Regulations

A. Operation of Contest

Note: All rules noted below are in addition to the rules stated in Section I; General Information.

1. General

a.) Competition Regulations

1.) Any vehicle that has not arrived at the facility within three (3) hours prior to the start of the event, may only participate at the discretion of the Event Manager.

2.) All competitors are required to attend the driverís meeting at a time designated by USHRA officials; failure to do so may result in a competitorís elimination from the show.

3.) At anytime the USHRA officials reserve the right to stop the event immediately by displaying either a red flag / red light and/or air horn. Any driver failing to bring their vehicle to a stop immediately following the officialís decision may be disqualified from competition.

4.) All decisions including but not limited to safety and track construction are at the discretion of the USHRA officials and are deemed final.

5.) The USHRA reserves the right to run a Qualifying Round prior to the start of the event to narrow the field and/or determine the racing order for Round One. A drawing may be held to determine Round One pairings and running order.

6.) Vehicles must pre-stage in their drawn position within one (1) minute of either being officially called to pre-stage by the USHRA. At the discretion of the USHRA, vehicles that are not able to pre-stage within the time limit may be dropped to the last running position and will forfeit the one (1) minute mechanical time option.

7.) Once a competition vehicle has been staged, the run will begin on the green light/flag. Once a vehicle has staged, if it crosses the starting line prior to the green light/flag, it will be considered a ďred lightĒ which may result in disqualification.

8.) Vehicles must stay on the designated course. Vehicles hitting the facility, other vehicles, or items not deemed as part of the performance area, may result in disqualification from the event. If damage occurs to a facility and/or other personís property, as an act of negligence, the responsible party may be held liable for restitution.

9.) All runs must be made in a forward direction.

10.) Should a vehicle require any assistance during a run, the run may be scored as a DNF.

11.) A request for a re-run must be made by the driver only and must be petitioned to the competition director immediately following the run. No re-run will be permitted once round is complete.

12.) For each individual performance, the driver/ vehicle combination must remain the same from qualifying through the end of competition.

b.) Course Regulations

1.) A course will be designed by the USHRA for all participants to compete. At the discretion of the USHRA, the course may be modified at any time.

2.) Timing may be conducted either by stopwatch or electronic timer. If stopwatches are used, three separate watches will be operated, and the middle time of the three watches may determine the time of the run. If two watches are used, the lower of the two times may be taken. If electronic timing devices are used, stopwatches may be used as a backup device.

3.) Each course obstacle may include predetermined course marker(s). Knocking a designated marker(s) to the ground or coming in contact with other obstacles may result in a five (5) second penalty per obstacle hit. This penalty will be added to the competitorís time at the completion of the run.

4.) Vehicles that fail to cross each course obstacle with the front two wheels may receive a five (5) second penalty.

5.) Vehicles that come in contact with crush cars may receive a 15 second penalty.

6.) Vehicles must come to a complete stop prior to leaving the racecourse after crossing the finish line. Failure to comply will result in 15 second penalty and may result in DQ.

2. Race format

a.) Timed Competition (Single Lane)

1.) Vehicles race against the clock to have the lowest elapsed time on the designated course.

2.) Competitors may have a practice round prior to the start of the event.

3.) In the event of a vehicle not being able to continue in competition due to breakage and/or infractions, the vehicle with the fastest non-advancing legal run may continue in the next round.

b.) Side-by-Side (Elimination / Bracket Racing)

1.) Vehicles stage for racing on side by side starting lanes, which are predetermined at the discretion of USHRA Officials. Racing will begin with on the mark of a common signal and race to a mutual finish line. The first vehicle to cross the finish line with a legal pass and the fewest number of infractions will be deemed the winner.

2.) If a vehicle disqualifies, the opponent may advance to the next round with a legal run.

3.) If a winning vehicle cannot continue under its own power, the opponent from the previous round will advance provided that they completed a legal run.

4.) In the event that both the winning and losing vehicles from any given round are unable to advance, due to breakage and/or infractions, the vehicle from that same round with the fastest losing legal run, may advance.

B. Safety Specifications

1. Competitor Safety

Note: For additional competitor safety specifications, refer to General Information, Event Regulations, Participant Safety on pages 19 - 20.

a.) A two (2) inch - five (5) point driver restraint system certified to SFI Spec 16.1 or 16.5 is mandatory. The harness/restraint system must have a manufacture date stamp and it must be updated every two (2) years.

b.) Roll bar padding certified to SFI Spec 45.1 is required within 18 inches of the driverís helmet.

c.) An on-board 2-1/2 lbs. fire extinguisher certified to SFI Spec 17.1 is mandatory.

d.) All competitors are required to wear a helmet certified to Snell Standard SA95, SA2000 or SA2005, or to SFI Spec 31.2A or 31.1/2005 and shatter proof safety goggles or safety shield during competition. Helmet restraints that strap to the sides of the underarms and/or helmet restraining device are highly recommended.

e.) Appropriate footwear, as deemed by USHRA Officials, is required. Open-toe footwear is not permitted.

2. Vehicle Safety

a.) All vehicles must have a minimum of a six (6) point roll cage with mounting points welded directly to the steel frame. The roll cage must have a minimum of 1.75 inch diameter D.O.M. steel tubing with a minimum wall thickness of .120 inch.

A suggested six (6) point roll cage would include: One (1) main hoop behind the driver, two (2) front uprights, two (2) rear braces to support the main hoop. Other roll cage designs may be permitted at the discretion of the USHRA.

b.) All vehicles in need of roll cage repair will be required to meet current USHRA specifications.

c.) All vehicles without permanent doors must have a protective 1.750 inch diameter by .120 inch (1.750 x .120) wall steel side brace on each side of the roll cage to protect from side impact. There must be a minimum of one (1) brace on each side of the vehicle, which are to be mounted no more than two (2) inches below the window and parallel to the frame.

d.) Dry or gel type batteries are highly recommended. All batteries must be securely mounted with a minimum of two (2) mounting locations and covered with a non-conductive material such as rubber, plastic or Lexan. Batteries are not permitted in driverís compartment.

e.) All vehicles must have adequate tow hooks in both the front and rear of the vehicle.



C. Vehicle Specifications

1. Engine / Fuel

a.) A firewall is required in both the front and rear of the driverís compartment. The shielding in the front must be from the floor to the bottom of the windshield and must connect from one side of the vehicle to the other. The shielding in the rear must be from the floor to the roof and also connect from one side of the vehicle to the other. The shielding material must be a minimum of .060 inch steel/ aluminum or.125 inch Lexan. Plexiglas is not permitted.

b.) Engine setback cannot exceed 15 percent of the overall wheelbase, and must stay within the stock frame.

c.) All radiators that are not mounted in the engine compartment must be securely mounted in the bed of the vehicle. All entries are limited to the use of an electric fan that is properly shrouded.

d.) Fuel cells certified to SFI Spec 28.1 or 32. 1 must be a minimum of one (1) inch wide by ľ inch thick or ĺ inch tubing diameter or 3/8 inch diameter chain.
e.) No Fuel lines, oil lines or coolant lines are permitted in the driverís compartment. Fuel additives are not permitted. This includes, but not limited to: Alcohol fuel, Nitro Methane and Nitrous Oxide.

f.) No part of the fuel system may be mounted to the firewall.


g.) All fuel systems must not exceed a single Ė four (4) barrel carburetor or electronic production type fuel injection system. Blowers and/or turbochargers are not permitted.

2. Chassis / Body

a.) Drive shaft lops are mandatory on all drive shafts. They must be a minimum of one (1) inch wide by ľ inch thick or ĺ inch tubing diameter or 3/8 inch diameter chain.

b.) C-notching the frame over the rear axel, will be permitted but cannot exceed six (6) inches.

c.) Vehicles must resemble a truck, jeep or SUV. Bodies must cover ninety (90) percent of the frame.

d.) Fiberglass bodies will be permitted.


e.) All theme/concept vehicles must be submit their specifications to USHRA Officials, two weeks in advance of each race. Each vehicle will be permitted at the discretion of the USHRA.

3. Suspension

a.) The maximum wheel travel cannot exceed 16 inches in both the front and rear suspensions. Positive bump stops and limiting chains and/or straps are highly recommended.

b.) Front and rear four link and/or radius arm suspensions will be permitted front and rear.

c.) Aftermarket suspension upgrades will be permitted.

d.) Cantilever and/or compound suspensions are not permitted.

e.) Sway bars are permitted, but may not act as a shock mounting point.

f.) Shock mounting points may be redesigned, strengthened and/or modified, but must stay within the confines of stock production body location.

g.) Coil-over shocks and multiple shock kits are permitted.

h.) Shocks that are remotely adjusted from the driverís compartment or while the vehicle is in motion are not permitted.

i.) Quarter elliptical, fiberglass, carbon fiber and/or composite springs will not be permitted.

4. Steering

a.) Rear steering is not permitted.

b.) Power assisted rack-pinion will be permitted

5. Wheels / Tires / Brakes

a.) All vehicles must have operable four (4) wheel brakes in safe, working condition that apply adequate breaking force to lock-up all four (4) wheels.

b.) All tires and rims must be DOT approved. Cutting of DOT tires is permitted. Approval aftermarket wheels with bead locks will be permitted.
