Default Adopt a trail (Naches)

Attached are the forms and information for the "new" adopt a trail program in the Naches ranger district. The FS has thrown the ball into our court and one of the best ways we can make sure our trails stay open is to formally adopt them and maintain them. Please if you use the area then adopt a trail that your club uses and like and help to insure that all of our trails stay open. Thanks Jim

Good to hear Dave. any chance of picking up both parts (lower in the clearcut and upper in the woods) Thing to keep in mind is that as the stewards of the trail you still have the backing of the PNW4WDA to help out on work partys when needed. The more little blocks of trails we can group together the better off were going to be in the long run.

I asked Jeff Leisy with the FS how the whole adoption process will work and this is his responce back. This will be a work in process as it is a new thing for them as well as us. Jim

Regarding your question about the process of moving from the adoption applications to adoption agreements, now that I am finishing up grooming cross-country ski trails, I’ll be taking the lead and will be getting back to each Individual Liaison to work through the process of completing trail adoption forms. If there are overlaps in requests for trails to adopt I’ll be working with all folks involved to figure out a workable solution. Our plan is to have me focus on that process the last part of April and early May. If that isn’t early enough for folks to complete planning/scheduling/logistics needs we’ll figure out those cases on an individual basis to meet those group’s needs. Does that make sense?

Thanks Jeff

We gotten several questions regarding the upcoming TWIG training session. I hope this will answer most of them….

The next TWIG will be May 1 beginning at 7pm.

Although everyone is welcome, the following is our TARGET AUDIENCE:

· Volunteer Trail Coordinators

· Adopt-A-Trail/Trail Steward Work Party Leaders (Maintenance and Special Project Leaders)

· Volunteer Trail Project Leaders (“Celebrate Trails” Projects)

· Representatives from Clubs/Organizations that plan to do volunteer work on trails but have not adopted any trails at this time

The trail volunteer training workshop will run until about 9pm. Some of the SUBJECTS that will be covered are:

· Volunteer Leadership Training (how to organize & motivate, FS policy regarding safety and volunteers, Tailgate Safety and Job Hazard Analysis, appropriate Personal Protective Equipment)

· How to Record and Report Trail Volunteer Hours/Contributions/Accomplishments

· The Basics of Trail Maintenance - Theory and General Principles

· Trail Condition Survey Process and Reporting

· Trail Maintenance and Project Planning

Have a great rest of your April! See you soon….
