June 2012 Meeting Minutes
Region 3 Minutes
19 June 2012
Region 3 Director Kyle Wiebold called the meeting to order at 7:40 p.m., followed by the flag salute and a moment of silence.
Thirteen Clubs were present this evening including Cascade Cruisers; Flat Broke & 4-Wheeling; Hubs in; Mud Puppies; Mud-A-Rama; Our Gang Off-Road; Piston’s Wild –Oregon; Piston’s Wild –Washington; PNW Individual Member Club; Push N Pulls; Sand Fleas; Those Guys Off Road; Vancouver 4 Wheelers.
HOSTING CLUB: Thank you to 4 Wheel Parts for providing pizza this evening.
Rick Smith made the motion, seconded by Ryan Wells, that the May 2012 meeting minutes be accepted as printed. The motion carried.
Region Director Kyle Wiebold – Season Opener had a poor turn out. Thank you to Teresa and Shawn for attending. A decision will need to be made regarding continuing the event. The annual car show and shine was a success. There was a record number of vehicles this year at Planter Days in Woodland. Don made the motion for giving Our Gang Off-Road and Hub’s In $50 for their prize donation. Rick Smith second the motion. The motion carried.
Vice Director Tom Fisher – Rose Festival was a success. Tom presented a check to Region 3 that he received for providing the drivers for the parade(s). He spent $250 on pizza and while getting the pizza his vehicle was towed. Carol Jensen made a motion to pay the $237 tow bill. Rick Smith second the motion. The motion carried.
Secretary Margaret Schiedler– Turned in meeting minutes to Tri-Power and put the meeting minutes on PNW4WDA website. Thank you to Kristen Smith for filling in for the last two months while Margaret finished her schooling.

Public Relations James August – Absent
Competition Marty Tilford –The Independent Race had a low turn out this year. Please remember that the region run offs will be at the 4 At a Time race and will be done in the morning. The Barrel Extravaganza as of right now has broken even. There was a great crowd and is good PR for the PNW4WDA. The Cowlitz County Fair has invited the PNW to put on another race during the fair. Please contact Kyle Wiebold if you are able to help. He is needing volunteers for staging, pit area and racers. There will be trophy’s for barrels and sprints.
Oregon Land Matters Jeff Bowman – Absent. Jon Halleux reported that 7 up in the TSF has been re-routed. Those Guys Off Road have been given permission to start building a trail in the La Dee Flats. Those Guys Off Road are needing volunteers to build the trail. It is being required that all volunteers attend a trail tour at Tillamook State Forest to see how a successful, sustainable and challenging trail system can be built.
If you are interested in helping them build trails in La Dee, please attend the tour of some of the newly opened trails in TSF on June 24th at 10:00 AM. They will be meeting at the Lee's Camp Store which is located at: 48400 Wilson River Highway, Tillamook, OR 97141
Washington Land Matters Kira Dominiak –Absent. Crystal Crowder advised the group that the request for information thru the Freedom Act has been successful and the SEPA plan has been signed off on. Volunteers will be needed to help create the trails. Initially, there will be brush clean up. The important thing is to get any stream crossing bridge construction done before September. Please watch Piston’s Wild website for more information on work party dates.
Club Power/We Did It/Quill Power – Requesting that letters be written for grants that SW Washington DNR is needing to get approved. This is in regards to #12-1284 motorized trail planning. This planning grant will provide funding for the staff time and costs associated with the surveying, engineering, designing, and permitting processes necessary for the implementation of the new motorized trails as described in the Phase 2 part of the RCO-funded Western Yacolt Burn Recreation Plan. Another letter that needs to be written is in regards to #12-1265 for Education and Enforcement. This grant will provide for Education and Enforcement (E&E) on ORV trails and trailheads in the Yacolt Burn State Forest, as well as on other DNR-managed recreation sites in the southwest part of Washington. E&E assists in protecting natural resources and providing safer recreational opportunities. This project will fund one full-time E&E Specialist to patrol trails, campgrounds, and trailheads in Clark, Skamania, Cowlitz, Wahkiakum, and Pacific Counties. This grant will also be used to purchase electronic equipment and educational materials that support the E&E program. It is important that the grants get approved. IAD Don and Carol Jensen– Carol and Don have been attending meetings and was able to put in comments regarding the Omnibus/Endangered Species. Her comments were in regards to the affect it is having on recreation.
Ways and Means Kristen Smith– Absent.
Rick Smith finally received the 110% award pins and is hoping to finish handing them out.
Operation Shore Patrol is coming along. The T-shirt design logo is almost done. Regan from the Long Beach Tourism office has ordered dash plaques. All the supplies have been ordered. Hoping to have the camping spots situated by the next region meeting.
Ryan Wells made the motion that the Region 3 meeting be changed to 7 pm starting next month. Paula Freimuth second the motion. Motion carried.
Please note the time change. Region 3 July 17th meeting will be at 7 pm at 4 Wheel Parts.
