Default re-gearing rear end. re-gear front?

i'm having the stock 20 in the rear rebuilt with a one piece axle and i'm upgrading to 4.56 gearing. i know for 4wd to work properly the front gearing has to match. but if i don't plan on putting it in 4wd any time soon can i just do the rear end and wait to re-gear the front end when i get more money? it's awful expensive to do it all at once.

I use sticky notes posted to the windshield that usually start off with "Hey Stupid" :super: Only problem is I forget to take them off and over a period if time I can't see out the windshield. So now I have a different colored sticky reminding me to take the other sticky notes off.
