Default BLM Issues Seasonal Closure

Effective on March 1st, public lands managed by the Spokane District Bureau of Land Management (BLM) - Franklin Co.) in the NW portion of the Juniper Dunes, will be temporarily closed to motorized vehicles. This closure prohibits the use of any type of motorized vehicles from March 1 to August 15 - notice stating "for the protection of wildlife and botanical resources." Violation can result in a $1000 fine and/or imprisonment not to exceed twleve months.

The notice has been published in the Federal Register - a copy of the order and map of the closed area are available for viewing at: http://www.blm.gov/or/districts/spok...room/index.php

Is this just because there is no legal access to the area or did we just loose yet another play area

Just lost more to the greenies. Over half of the area has already been closed to vehicles for years as you can see here:

Now more of the area is closed by BLM. What BS. This area has enough BS since BLM does not even having a public access road into it.

BLM Issues Seasonal Road Closure in Juniper Dunes

SPOKANE, WA -- Effective at 12:01 a.m. on March 1, 2009, public lands in the northwestern portion of the Juniper Dunes area located in Franklin County, Washington will be temporarily closed to motorized vehicles. These lands are administered by the Spokane District Bureau of Land Management (BLM).

The closure order prohibits the operation of any type of motorized vehicle within the closed area during the period from March 1 to August 15, 2009.
The temporary closure is necessary for the protection of wildlife and botanical resources.

A copy of the closure order will be posted at locations throughout the affected area. A notice will also be published in the Federal Register. A copy of the order and a map of the closed area are available on the internet at http://www.blm.gov/or/districts/spok...room/index.php.

Violations of this closure regulation are punishable by a fine not to exceed $1,000 and/or imprisonment not to exceed 12 months.

I know I sure didn't see this coming, and I ain't none too happy. Where was input from local stake holders? Saw nothing in the paper, either! I do believe Ms. Hues deserves a few phone calls and e-mails...
