Oregon Land Matters

Tillamook:
Discussion is under way with the Oregon Department of Forestry, to have a 4x4 intervention into the overall trail maintenance and repair of the trail system in the Tillamook.

There will be an on site walk through in the Tillamook area on September 10th. This will involve key people within the 4x4 community to add their opinions to the reroute of Airplane, and discuss other trail options in the area.

As of 8/15/06 the trail system in the Tillamook area is as standing:

• 4 - Powerline – Open, looks as it always does, some small amounts of trail off-chutes need to be addressed.
• 6 - Browns Powerline – Open
• 10 - University Firepower – Open
• 13 - Cedar Tree – Mostly open, down trees about Ύ the way in
• 14 - Firebreak Five – Open, upper section still needs reroute
• 14r - Crusher Trails – Open, go and see the extreme
• 16d - Airplane Hill – Closed, reroute is under discussion 9/10/06
• 16a - Saddle Up – Open, heavy on the rock and steep, I believe it will be closed for winter or downhill only when it gets wet, to keep the shelf at the top in good condition.
• 17 - 7-Up – Open, V groove is starting to diminish, back side is still steep and fun.
• 20 - Hoodraiser – Open, starting to evolve into a trail instead of a road, great in the snow.
• 22 - Back to Back – Open, still don’t understand this trail
• 24 - Bates Road – Closed until logging is done
• 26 - Ample and Alluring – Open, will always be open
• 28 - Archers Firebreak – Sections Open, Rocky uphill looks good filters have already been moved, the sections that are closed will be addressed starting on September 18th, the Tillamook Road Crew will be assisting with the hardening of these trails.
• 36 - Rogers Road – Closed, active logging area, trail requires, grading, drainage, rolling dips, rocking to harden the trail surface in areas boulder placement for challenge.
• 41 - Firefox – Open, good beginner trail
• 123 - Truck Dent – Open, I have never gotten a dent on this trail

Astoria Area:
On August 1st the board meeting, that was open to the public, made a decision to not designate any areas. This includes non-motorized and motorized. They are not locking the people out; they just don’t have the man power with some of the new campgrounds and the existing trail system in the area. This whole thing was blown out of proportion; the initial idea was to designate the areas for different activities not to build trails or recreation areas but to map the area out for the future as of now it is still sitting in limbo. There is a 4x4 representative involved in this, I do not know who it is but I am in the process of finding out. The Astoria office has also asked not to be added to the mailing list, so I will have to be our primary contact until the 4x4 representative is found.
