Baker RMP draft out
Got my copy of the Baker Resource Area Resource Management Plan Revision Draft EIS last night. Has a 90 day comment period

Virtue Flat OHV area will remain "open" under all alternatives at this time. Under 2 of the alternatives, a couple of other areas would be "open" as well, with most everything else going to "limited" (existing routes until the travel management plan is done (5 years from ROD)). Some closures due to new ACEC's and WSR desiginations. Other alternatives would have no other "open" areas, and more closures. The recreation planner on the project is one of our own and needs to hear from us to have some ammunition to fight with.

Can request the document on a CD or in hard copy (about 10 lbs in 3 volumes)

I have to have comments to our sub-group chair by the end of December for the draft of the letter that the entire Rac will submit on the plan. I am leaning towards the OHV proposal in alt. 3. It calls for Virtue and 2-3 other "open" areas, with around 38,000 acres "closed", vs. around 19,000 closed in alt. 2. The closures would be an additional ACEC and all of the "landlocked" parcels of BLM that have no public access due to being surrounded by private ground.

The preferred alternative is alt. 1, with just Virtue "open" and everything else either in "limited" or "closed".

Post up here with anything you want submitted as a comment in what I send to our sub-group chair for inclusion / discussion.

Only have a couple of weeks left to get comments in for the draft. They have to be in by the 23rd of this month.

We want the alt 3 package for OHV use.

Some of our people also do some gold prospecting and a comment to the effect of a public access recreational mining area simular to the Quartzville corridor on the Salem District would be appreciated. The mining folks are not liking closures either.

Got back from our meeting and the RAC comment letter will include my wish for th OHV package from Alt. 3. They will accept comments until March 23, so please get them in.
