PNW Station debuts new podcast series

PORTLAND, Ore. May 3, 2012. The U.S. Forest Service’s Pacific Northwest Research Station today launched “PNW Ecotone,” a new podcast series. Available for streaming or download at http://www.fs.fed.us/pnw/podcasts, the series introduces listeners to recent science findings, tools, and timely research topics from the station’s 11 laboratories and centers.

“In the research branch of the Forest Service, we’re working to better deliver what we’re learning about forests,” said Cindy Miner, the station’s Assistant Director for Communications and Applications. “We think people will find that our podcasts provide a quick and enjoyable way to stay current with science.”

The series’ inaugural episode, “Scarred for Life,” features Seattle-based research ecologist Don McKenzie, and highlights his work on how tree-ring scars can serve as indicators of past fires across a landscape.

Each episode of “PNW Ecotone” will be accompanied by an online photo gallery, links to more information, and a transcript. Listeners can choose to receive new episodes automatically by subscribing to a dedicated RSS feed (http://www.fs.fed.us/pnw/RSS/podcasts.xml).

The Pacific Northwest Research Station is headquartered in Portland, Oregon. It has 11 laboratories and centers located in Alaska, Oregon, and Washington and about 425 employees.
