Default Piston's Wild Hangover Run 2015

We pulled into Sunset Camp Ground about 8:45 to see the Morgans already there. The Gauthier's arrived a few minutes after us and the Jondahl's pulled in right at 9am. After airing down and letting the dogs run around for a bit we headed on out. Unlike last years run we were in some snow within a couple of miles from Sunset.

Out of Sunset we too the 41rd up to the 4104. The 4104 mostly runs on the north side of the hill so I figured that there would be a better chance for snow. I was right.

We stopped on a little spur rd to get a better view of the surrounding mountains.

The view

Back on the 4104

The weather was great. In some places the wind was blowing and it was to cold to be out of the vehicles. Other spots were so sheltered that you could take off some of your layers. The roads were the same way. One spot you would be in an inch or two of snow. The next spot it would be drifted up and the Jeeps could barely crawl through it.

After gaining 2500 feet in elevation from the time that we had aired down it was time to let a little more pressure out of our tires.

After dropping a few more psi in the tires we kept moving on into to more snow and great views.

A great view of Mt Hood.

The 4104 ends at the summit of the 41rd right where we got a big group shot last year. There was a little more snow this year.

We hung out, had lunch and played in the snow here for a little while.

While at the summit there was another group that came through from the east. When we left their track were already covered up from the drifting snow.

Headed east

As we were driving along I spotted some sort of structure on the side of the hill ahead. Se we went on over to see what it was. Turned out to be this really awesome fort!!! Or something like that....

Titan was just as curious as the rest of us were.

Awesome fort with and awesome view!

Right here the wind was not blowing at all. We couldve stayed here all day.

Just around the next corner was a spur road that went up hill and the snow was deep. I had to go for it!

Slow and steady was the name of the game. There were some deep parts then there would be almost nothing.

I got to this point right here and the snow drift didnt want me to travel any farther.

Every time I tried going forward the back end of the Jeep wanted to slide to the right. While inside the vehicle it felt like we were moving feet to the right in reality it was only an inch of two at a time.

After factoring in the lack of forward progress, the howling wind, and the time of day it was decided that it would be best to turn around.

I had just driven through here and my tracks were already filled in from the wind

Once we were all back onto the main road we kept on heading east towards Carson. This is the north side of Little Lookout Mountain.

There was a couple more miles of deep snow before we started to head down hill.

We got back onto the pavement and aired back up near Hemlock. From there we went into Stevenson to Big T's Diner where we had dinner and watched the second half of the Rose Bowl.
