Default WOHVA - NOVA/RTP grant application

Washington Off Highway Vehicle Alliance (WOHVA) and the Northwest Motorcycle Association need your support before WED 11/07! Both orgs are applying for grants to support trail work in WA State and we need your written support!

As you know, the OHV trails on public land here in WA State are not receiving enough heavy maintenance to maintain a lot of the trails to the specifications for their assigned Trail Management Objective (TMO). The amount of work needed for trail maintenance just far exceeds land managementís ability to do the all the work and complimentary work by WA State OHV current volunteer efforts usually requires way too much manual labor to truly be effective.

Beginning in 2019 the Washington Off Highway Vehicle Alliance (WOHVA) and the Northwest Motorcycle Association (NMA) will be able to provide specialized power equipment and funding for other expenses to OHV trail volunteers to support local efforts on the projects volunteers choose to accomplish on public lands in their area of WA State. This funding will only be available if WOHVA and NMA obtain the NOVA and RTP grants currently in the application process. The NMA has put up $25,000 and WOHVA has put up $10,000 as a match for the RTP and NOVA grants to support this program. We have also secured $7,200 in matching dollars from Bobcat and are pursuing other industry grants as well, to provide additional matching funds. Your volunteer hours are not being utilized as a match for these grants, i.e. you can still use them to support whatever you choose to support with those hours. The WOHVA & NMA grants are to be complimentary to current land management efforts.

This WOHVA & NMA support will also be available to provide equipment & supplies for properly approved, i.e. post-NEPA, etc. (work performed by the applicable land management agency), trail relocation or entirely new trails where complimentary voluntary support for the ground work is available to support the agency.

WOHVA https://www.wohva.org/ and the NMA https://www.nmaoffroad.org/have both submitted NOVA grant (also RTP for NMA) applications to fund equipment, expenses, supplies and administration in order to increase both the quantity and the effectiveness of partnership and volunteerism for OHV trail maintenance on public lands here in WA State. WOHVA and the NMA are also in the process of obtaining cross district volunteer agreements with all of the WA USFS districts and the WA DNR, so local groups working with this WOHVA or NMA support will be covered under those umbrella agreements.

To bolster these grant applications we require a letter of support for both WOHVA and the NMA grants stating your organization (or you personally) are in support of these grants from your NOVA and RTP funds to them. Please send an email stating your support for both grants to president@wohva.org and to ohv-grant-support@nmaoffroad.org. The complete grant application, including letters of support is due November 7, 2018. Please act now!

The final grant presentation will not occur until January, 2019 and the funds from these grants will not be available until sometime later in 2019 if these grant applications are successful. We have plenty of time to work out all the details and alleviate any concerns you may have concerning this support for volunteer trail maintenance. You may want to obtain a free pdf copy of the Great Trails book from the National Off-Highway Vehicle Conservation Coalition (NOHVCC) http://gt.nohvcc.org/ in preparation for participation.

Time is very short to get all of this done so please send your email this week. Your support is essential.
