Default Google Offline Maps and logging road navigation

I want to ditch the Garmin and use my Android devices for navigation. They have real GPS in them.

I know I can DL offline maps, and when I zoom in on them they show logging roads, maybe not every one but a lot.

Have any of you made your own custom maps using google offline and able to navigate and show tracks with them etc?

I have a trip to the boonies on Vancouver Island and want to make some options I can count on.

THX!

Have you tried PDF Maps (avenza)?

When out on USFS ground don't rely on GPS for navigation on roads. Since most National Forests have done their travel management plans, no all roads may be open to motorized travel. You should have their Motor Vehicle Use Maps (MVUM). They show what is open, and it is your responsibility to know if the route you are on is open or not, and there is no requirement they be posted open or closed.

Your mileage may vary in other jurisdictions and countries.
