Default Region 4 minutes January 11, 2011

JANUARY 11, 2011

Director Earl Nettnin (Desert Rats) called the meeting to order at 7:30 PM. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited and a moment of silence for the sick and departed was observed. Earl asked that we remember Al Matson of the Ridgerunners who passed away Monday, January 3, 2011. No guests were present.

MINUTES: A motion was made by Kelda Hagemeier (Shindig Wheelers) seconded by Randy Hayes (Sand Commandos) that we accept the November 9TH, 2010 minutes as printed; motion passed.

TREASURER’S REPORT: Sande Nettnin Secretary/Treasurer (Desert Rats) had a detailed written report of the financial condition of Region 4. We have no outstanding bills at this time.

COMP: A COMP by-law change is listed in the Tri-Power along with a ballot, only those with a current COMP number are to vote; mail your ballot in to the COMP Chairman on or before January 31, 2011.

MEMBERSHIP: Nothing new to report at this time.

CLUB POWER/WE DID IT: Chairman Gary Harting (Desert Rats) had nothing to report. Gary said he is trying to get in touch with the PNW’s Club Power/We Did It Chairman but has not been successful.

JUNIOR JEEPERS: Gloria Joralemon (Shindig Wheelers) said she is still looking for a company to do the patches and she had received the name of someone tonight who might be able to give a good price on them. She said they will be ordered very soon. She plans to start meetings with the kids in March. Gloria also reminded everyone that if you have a grandchild whose parents are not PNW members but the children attend events with you and want to be Junior Jeepers all you have to do is have their names added to your roster along with your name.

WEB SITE: Nobody knew anything or had anything to report about the Region 4 Web Site at this time.

PR: Kelda Hagemeier (Shindig Wheelers) said things have been pretty quiet, but if you need to have something sent out, please contact her and she will get it done.

The land coordinator contacts are as follows: Roger Brittain (Shindig Wheelers) Little Rattlesnake; Clay Graham (Yakima Kittitas Forest Watch) Beverly Dunes; Dave McMains (Hurtin’ Units & Sand Commandos) Moses Lake Sand Dunes; Doug Conner (Roamin’ Chariots) Juniper Dunes & Rim Rock; Ron Rutherford (Jeepin’ Nomads) Ahtanum, Wenas & Rim Rock; Dale Neuman (High Country Cruisers) Liberty area.
Juniper Dunes: Doug Conner (Roamin’ Chariots) reported BLM hopes to have the first two miles of Peterson Road paved by the end of 2011. We will still have to keep them moving to get access across more private land to the outer area. Hopefully there will be no more NO TRESPASSING signs. Discussion followed about what’s been happening out there. Steve Richards (Peak Putters) said his club is hoping to have a clean-up sometime in February in the Juniper Dunes. For more information attend the State Meeting on January 22nd at the Union Gap School #2, 3201 South 4th, Union Gap, WA.

The America’s Great Outdoors Act of 2010, otherwise known as the omnibus public lands bill is officially dead for this congress.

You can have your friends receive CLOUT by having them send an e-mail to CLOUT@GETCLOUT.ORG Along with their name, voting zip code and your name as a reference.

NOVA - Status report from the NOVA Advisory Committee, Our Governor is making two proposed budget recommendations; one is that about $5.5 million should be provided to our office for NOVA grants in the next biennium and the other is that beginning July 1, 2012 our office should be consolidated into a new Department of Conservation and Recreation agency. The Governor has also recommended elimination of the NOVA committee from state law.

The city of Tieton has 26 acres they want to develop into an ORV trail head staging/camping area. They will be applying to the RCO NOVA funding program to get grant money to plan and develop the site. Once the commissioners meeting date is set (sometime in January) we will need to rally as many people in the ORV community as possible to attend the meeting to show our support. This is mostly for motor cycle and quads.

Nominations were opened again for 2011 Region 4 officers, they are as follows: Region 4 Director Earl Nettnin (Desert Rats); Vice-Director Ed Massey (Sand Commandos & Hurtin’ Units); Secretary/Treasurer Sande Nettnin (Desert Rats); PR Kelda Hagemeier (Shindig Wheelers); Lead Land Matters Dale Neuman (High Country Cruisers). Nominations closed, Doug Conner (Roamin’ Chariots) made a motion seconded by Gloria Joralemon (Shindig Wheelers) that a unanimous ballot be cast for Earl, Ed, Sande, Kelda and Dale; motion passed.

Due to impending land closures, the spring Liberty work party date has not been set. There is talk it may be Father’s Day weekend. Hopefully more information will be given out at the State meeting.

1. Plan to attend the WA State meeting January 22nd in Union Gap at the Union Gap School #2, 3201 South 4th from 9 AM – 4 PM. This is for everyone interested in land matters. We need a big turnout so we can show our WA State Director Arlene Brooks (Green River Valley Jeepers) that we appreciate all her efforts on our behalf.
2. Winter Convention February 11-13 in Everett, WA at the Holiday Inn.
3. WOHVA Rally February 25th in Olympia at the Capitol. Kelda Hagemeier (Shindig Wheelers) made a motion seconded by Randy Hayes (Sand Commandos) that we donate $250 to WOHVA to help with rally expenses; motion passed.
4. Scholarship applications are due before the gavel drops at Winter Convention. Ed Massey (Sand Commandos & Hurtin’ Units) made a motion seconded by Gloria Joralemon (Shindig Wheelers) that we donate $3000 to the PNW’s Scholarship Fund; motion passed.
5. Trail Jamboree: Co-Chairman Kelda Hagemeier (Shindig Wheelers) announced that Trail Jamboree is July 6-10, 2011 and the sign up for it would start at 8 AM on Monday February 21st. The Annual Trail Jamboree Clean-up is scheduled for April 15 -17 at Jim Sprick Park. We will once again be serving Hobo Stew at lunch; everyone is asked to bring something to add to the stew, but no more than 2 cups cut and ready to add to the pot. Region 4 will provide the meat, little smokies, rolls, butter, napkins, spoons, bowls and ice cream. Earl and Sande Nettnin (Desert Rats) as usual will provide Raspberries for the ice cream. Following the clean-up the trail host meeting will take place. Co-Chairman Sid Hagemeier (Shindig Wheelers) will be calling soon to firm up his hosts. Kelda also reminded everyone that we have a pot luck Saturday night so you need to be prepared for that too. Kelda asked if the region would like to donate money for prizes. Randy Hayes (Sand Commandos) made a motion seconded by Josh Wesselius (Ridgerunners) that the Region donate $300 for prizes; motion passed.
6. Pick Up A Mountain (PUAM) is September 17th, 2011 so save this date. More information will be coming. Pam Remley (Shindig Wheelers) is our chairman.

Desert Rats had election of officers, voted in a new member, are having our after holidays party this Saturday at Applebee’s in Kennewick with white elephant gift exchange. Some plan to attend the State meeting on January 22nd, and we are working on a run to the Rubicon with the Wine Country Rock Crawlers out of CA on September 11-17.
Sand Commandos donated $300 to the Humane Society in Moses Lake instead of sponsoring a Christmas family. They did not have a Christmas party this year.
Roamin’ Chariots – are planning camping trips with family and friends and have been cruising Juniper Dunes.
Hurtin’ Units – had their annual Christmas meeting/party. They have the same officers as last year. They have two club members that are talking very seriously about opening a 4-wheel drive shop in Moses Lake. They are working on their rigs and have one new member and two prospective members.
Ridgerunners – added a new member in September, a few of them went with another group on a Turkey Day run; they held their annual Christmas party. On January 3rd Al Matson passed away, he was a long time member and very supportive of the PNW as well as his club. He will certainly be missed. Thursday is a Mass of Christian Burial for him at 11 AM at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Selah with graveside services following at Terrace Heights Memorial Park. A time of viewing will be offered just prior to Mass at the church and a reception will follow at the church following the burial.
Peak Putters held their annual freeze your buns run in the Naches area lots of snow, December 6th had their annual Christmas tree run; they sponsored a family for Christmas who had lost the father in a motor cycle accident; held their annual Christmas party in Steve Richards new shop; have had several runs to Juniper Dunes; they have one new member and two candidates. A run is planned this weekend weather permitting.

They have two new members and they had election of officers, Terry Joralemon is president and Alicia Palachuk is secretary the rest of the officers remain the same.

In lieu of flowers the region decided that our donation to the scholarship fund would be in memory of Al Matson.

Steve Richards (Peak Putters) asked about the Corn Feed. Discussion followed and if a club wants to host a Corn Feed all they have to do is step up and say so. Otherwise it will be held along with Pick Up A Mountain. Josh Wesselius Ridgerunners said that Al Matson (Ridgerunners) had a plaque made up for the Corn Shucking Contest and had given it to the Ridgerunners to bring to Pick Up A Mountain.
