When preparing for a multi-day off-road adventure, having the right gear is essential for safety, comfort, and vehicle reliability. Whether setting up a base camp or embarking on a self-supporting trip, this checklist will help ensure you're well-equipped for any situation.


Customizing Your Gear Loadout

Each trip has unique requirements, so adjust your gear accordingly. Sharing supplies between multiple vehicles can save space and reduce weight. For remote excursions, additional food, water, spare parts, and tools should be included. Always pack for unexpected delays by bringing extra clothing, food, and emergency essentials.

Most importantly, know your vehicle! Ensure you have the specialized tools necessary for trail repairs.


Standard Trail Gear

  • Permits: Discover Pass, NW Forest Pass, Oregon OHV Permit (as required)

  • Communication: Cell phone & charger, GMRS/CB radio, GPS

  • Fire Safety: Fire extinguisher

  • Medical: First aid kit

  • Lighting: Flashlight/headlamp, spare batteries

  • Essentials: Adequate food & water for the trip

  • Sanitation: Toilet paper, garbage bags
